Prophecy is more than just giving a word of knowledge or a word of wisdom, in fact prophecy is more than words alone.
Prophecy is truly every word and action that comes from a believer. Every.
Why? Because we are walking expressions of the Kingdom that is within our lives - and prophecy is conditional when we are the outlet for the King.
A hug, a smile, a gentle word of encouragement can release more of God's love than many of the prophetic "thus saith the Lord" proclamations that are spoken forth today. I am not discrediting the prophetic word as we prophesy over people nearly every day here at the ministry. Yet at the same time it is the prophetic lifestyle that brings transformation within our own life - and those we encounter.
A few years ago I walked into a local business and bumped into an acquaintance from years before. I said hello and before I walked past her, extended my arm and gave her a quick hug. She held on just a moment, and then a moment longer... her eyes filled with tears and she replied with a sincere "thank you" - a tearful thank you for a simple hug.
She later proceeded to tell me how her life was in shambles, and amidst all of the fear and confusion, that one simple gesture somehow broke down the fear and gave her hope yet again. Can a smile or a hug really bring back hope? Can an act of kindness restore dignity and dreams? If your actions and reactions release the love of the Lord, and reveal true compassion, then it is purely prophetic.
The Testimony of Jesus
"... for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy." Revelation 19:10
The testimony of Jesus Christ can be released with our words - yet many times we see that the testimony of Jesus is never spoken aloud, but it shown through our actions. Not displaying arrogance and self-righteousness through religious protocol, but instead sharing true love.
We are blessed to live in a time and place of culture that enjoys prophetic artwork, prophetic music, and depths of prophetic teaching. At the same time, in all of our studying and doing, remember that we all are children of God and all can prophesy. Yep, that includes you as well.
You can prophesy through your words, yet most prophesy through actions. You are displaying the testimony of Jesus (prophecy) in all that you live and all that you do unto others.
Remember that prophecy is to edify, exhort, and encourage others. This is the purpose of prophecy, and your actions and reactions are prophesying to those you encounter.
Today, I urge you to consider seeking the prophetic anointing in your life, for the impact you can have in other's lives. Prophesy through compassion in both word and deed, and then your Lord Jesus will be truly honored.
