Crazy Lady Speaking In Tongues? And How I Received The Gift!

I VIVIDLY remember the first time I heard someone speaking in tongues - although it was over 30 years ago I can tell you exactly where I was and exactly the look I got from my Aunt as I started laughing and making fun of the "crazy old woman" that was shouting some gibberish and dancing around like a bee went up her dress!

I was told throughout my childhood of questioning and yes laughing at those who spoke in tongues, not to "blaspheme the Holy Spirit" or  I would be damned to hell forever with no chance of escape.  Wow.  God must take that tongue talking stuff pretty serious, yes?

Yes.  

Although a child laughing or being curious is not going to open the gates of hell for all of eternity, the Lord does take the "gibberish" very serious - thus, so do I.

This article is not going to explain all the intricate details of tongues, but instead I simply desire to share with you how I received the gift of tongues, and a later article will go deeper.

Receiving the gift.

The night I received the gift of tongues and was baptized by the spirit of God was truly supernatural.  I experienced the awesome power of God, and his power was evident through the speaking in tongues.  I had prayed and asked for the gift of tongues, not because it was cool or anything of the such, but because I knew it was a key to power and it was the promise that Jesus told the disciples to tarry for... I wanted what they had if Jesus had promised this gift!

I read a great small booklet by Kenneth Hagin called Tongues and from that short teaching I recognized that I had been asking for years, yet had not taken the time to simply receive!  That evening we were in a small Pentecostal church in Smithfield, NC and they were having a healing service.  I walked into the healing line, not sick in body, yet ready to receive all that God had for me that evening!
